Letter to FPPC written by Cantu

Here is a copy of a letter that was attached to Melendez's letter to the state attorney general (shown on post of June 1st). This letter was written by Manuel Cantu and in it he is complaining to the Fair Political Practice Commission (FPPC). He complains about the school board's decision to hire lawyers to stop the school board recall after discovering that many of the signatures on the recall petitions were collected illegally. He claims that the motive for hiring the lawyers to fight the recall stems from the desire of the board members to retain their health benefits package at all costs. Most of the letter is amusing, it's almost like what I would expect to read from a child trying to make an argument. The last sentence where he points out Mr. Kasiner's Oklahoma license plate number is kinda goofy. I'm sure this letter left a good impression on the folks at the FPPC. I can almost guarantee where this letter eventually ended up.....directly in the trash.

Remember when Melendez was in Iraq and was on the phone running the meetings that the city was having? What did the council do? Hang up on him and told him that he couldn't be a part of the meetings, right? Wasn't Ben part of that council that did that? So how would Ben feel if Kasiner (the President of the Board)would have been the Mayor and been running the meetings from Oklahoma for the past 6 meetings? Yeah, not good huh? See Ralph, you might know a bit about the city politics, but you are clueless when it comes to the school board. The evidence has been gathered. Kasiner sold his home and is actually living in Oklahoma. Do you think it is fair for him to keep his position and run the meetings? See, if you stuck to city stuff, you actually might win the recall in aug. or whenever it happens. But when you start to defend this CROOKED School Board, then you lose votes and you have created problems. See, I know why you are doing this. It's not that you think that the school board is a good one, ask your father-in-law. He knows the truth! He knows how crooked these guys are. YOu do this to jack up Cantu and to make him look bad. If you can achieve that, then you think you'll gain more votes for the recall and oust him from office. Maybe you would oust him and the rest of the fellas if you strickly stuck to city stuff, since you know a little bit about that. However, mr. cantu has dug up stuff on Kasiner (just like you dig up stuff on melendez) and whenever he uncovers stuff, you think it is childish and never give him his props. Look dude, all I am saying is that you don't know the school board at all and what they have done in the last 4 to 5 years. (especially since the way they handled wallace's ordeal) You probably don't even know who she is, right? By you coming out and supporting this school board district just to be against cantu, that shows how pathetic you guys are. stick to city stuff and you'd probably get your way. ask around, you guys know plenty of people that teach in the schools. browning road, kern ave, middle school, high school. I bet you know 10-20 people at each site. talk to them and see what they think about the school board. you'd quickly change your position and stop capping on cantu when it comes to school board stuff. hey, if you want to continue to cap on him for city stuff, you'd probably wouldn't even have any backlashes or complaints from too many people. but it is a shame that you are stuck in the dark and just want to go against whatever cantu does or says. what a tragedy!

So you think the school board would be better off with a person that uses drugs and drives under the influence of alcohol? And don't forget the other two guys that are being charged with election fraud. What kind of message would we send to the children that attend McFarland's schools if we allowed this to occur?

I don't post documents to make Cantu look bad but merely to reveal the truth about the people that are in office and to give people an opportunity to evaluate how some of these officials think. Cantu doesn't need me to make him look bad, he does a good job of making himself look bad all on his own.

How about McCurtis, Clanahan, Price, Adams, Salgado, Rubio? They each have had to face unfair treatment, not to mention countless other employees who work in fear for their jobs and countless students who have not been given the highest priority. The school and the community need to heal. We need to always try to do the best. Mud slinging is not going to heal the community or mend our school district. I say this to myself as well to others... What would God do? Would he be proud of us and say well done my faithful servant or would he be disapointed? Maybe we all, including myself, need to practice the "Golden Rule". I also believe this open foreum is hurtful not informative. Please consider who this hurts. Everyone ever mentioned since you established this Blog has children and families. I see their pain. Please see it too.

I disagree with your statement that this blog is not informative. It may be 'hurtful' as you say, but sometimes the truth hurts. I think we have a right to be informed about the character of the people that are representing our community and the feedback that I get is that people enjoy having access to documents and information that we typically don't see. Any person running for public office should understand that they are now being looked at more closely and they need to behave ethically. If they are not proud of their actions or decisions then they should consider this before running for office and before they risk embarrassing their families.

so what is the truth that you are talking about? is it that you support this bogus school board because they are better than having a person that was caught for drugs and others who didn't "supposedly" follow rules when collecting signatures? is that what the truth is? are you saying that you'd rather have this present board intact? if you have the guts to claim that, then you're no better than anyone else who has ever done things wrong. the fact is that we need a new school board. at this point, anybody would make better decisions than the current board. too many bad things have happened to good people. it all began when they got rid of janie flores and since then, they have gotten worse and worse with their decisions. investigate a little and you'll agree that the walllace has been the best principal mhs ever had and they got rid of her. i see right through all of your words ralph and you've taken this position just to hammer cantu. you call his letter childish but don't you think it holds water? answer this please: would you allow kasiner to run meetings from oklahoma? yes or no? knowing full well that his plates are now oklahoma plates, would you want him to continue being on the board if you were part of the board? yes or no? you claim that cantu does work all by himself to bring negativity to his name but i don't agree. you look for things that he is doing or has done to try and get votes on your side. people aren't dumb! they know about the school board and it's a shame that you haven't taken time to get to know the present school board. take the time to do that and you'll probably even team up with cantu to write letters to different people.

To anonymous: Do you know what goes on at MHS? Do you work there? If I had to send my child to a High School I wouldn't send them to MHS. Some of the teachers only worry about their pay check and not teaching the kids. Half of the students are not learning anything. We need to worry about the kids. As far as Wallance goes she did this to her self nobody threw her out. Get over it. Go on worry about the kids. All the people making a big stink like Rubio, Wallace and Callenhan need to move on, or are they afraid they can't get hired anywhere else. I hope when your talking about the school board your talking about all of them including Deleon and Melendez. They don't have a clue They listen to what everybody tells them to do because they can't think for themselves. McFarland use to be a nice place to live it's going down hill because everybodys after each other. What does Ralpel Melendez have to do with the school board? He can't even run the city. Do you know anything about politics or what you are talking about! How can you talk about Kasiner selling his home and talk about the Mayor in the same sentence, and defending the Mayor when he uses city money to take trips that haven't helped the city when Kasiner only sold his home he did not use school money. I've been told by students that attend MHS that Cantu isn't that great of a teacher that they weren't learning anything in his class. He was only worried about the school board and the recall that the students were not learning anything. If the students knew this what was he teaching? And has far as casting stones how about the Mayor and his skeletons in his closet? He is not the perfect family man he wants everybody to think. What does DeLeon do on Saturday nights? is he home all the time? The Mayors bother is'nt the perfect family man ither. Do you know what goes on in the private session of the school board? In stead of trying to bring the school board down work with them talk to them. What does Julie have to do with her dad she has a mind of her own. She thinks for her self. Everybody is always talking about being good christens but I have yet to see it. LETS CARE ABOUT THE KIDS AND WHOS TEACHING THEM.

To the post on 6/15, 12:38pm.
In my opinion, I would prefer to have the present school board in place rather than have a board made up of an illegal drug user and people that violated election laws.

Regarding Kasiner and his remote participation in the meetings, well I would agree that it would probably be better if he could attend the meetings in person. But I partcipate in weekly teleconference meetings with teams in India and China. So I know that it is possible to effectively run and conduct a meeting when all of the team members are not in the same room. There are millions of people throughout the world that participate in meetings this way so I see no issue with Kasiner doing this. If you can prove to me that he is not able to make good decisions because of this then I would be concerned. But my theory is that this has less to do with Kasiner and more to do with Melendez and his desire to put people in place on the school board that he can control.

For the next school board election I propose this, look at all of the candidates and evaluate them based on their own personal successes in their own lives. Look at their careers, educational background, their family, and their children and ask yourself if this is a person that you would consider to be a good role model for our children. It's as simple as that.

to anonymous who wrote to anonymous: you wouldn't let your children go to MHS? of course not. That's because you have no children. You're children already went to MHS or you have no children. As for me, I don't work there but I know some people that do work there. Some of them go to the Church of the Living Saviour and some of them go to Catholic churches. Some of them don't even go to church. You talk about acting like christians and caring about the kids instead of paychecks. Well, the people that I know that work there do care about kids. They are the coaches for practically all sports. They are the ones that volunteer countless hours before and after-school to help kids. MHS has met the API for a couple of years in a row. They are doing just as good as other HIgh Schools in the Area and better than many other High Schools in the Bakersfield area. MHS is not in major trouble like other High Schools. They haven't been taken over by the state and they never will. As for Cantu and all the balony that you said about him not teaching. It's all B.S.! No students said that cantu was taking care of school board stuff or city stuff. You made that up cuz you assume that. Get a life! As for ralph claiming that he supports this current board.....dude!!!!! you just lost a vote for julie come election time. see, my claim all along has been that i know that melendez has made mistakes and I could easily be swayed to vote your way julie. but as I have studied the decisions made by the school board for the past 3-5 years, i'm disgusted that you would support them ralph. I'm really disgusted. you have no clue whatsoever. MHS has had 17 or 18 principals in the last 4 years. WHY? WHY? WHY? Because the school board hates on people and go after people that they don't like. They tried and almost succeeded at getting rid of the current principal. close call! i understand that the superintendent resgined. supposedly he was nervous about the election in november cuz he saw the writing on the wall. anyways ralph, i was on board with you to bring change to the city but with you supporting this school board, you're in trouble to get julie into office. oh, and i have many friends that just left your camp based on your statement. your loss pal!
