City Council Recall Rumors

Someone has been spreading rumors and telling people in our community that the city council recall is going to be stopped. I just wanted to notify everyone that the city council recall is still set to take place on August 15th and nothing is expected to hold up this election. Everything is on track and so far there are a great group of candidates that plan to run for office.

This is Rose Mary.

Just wondering, does anybody have a favorite candidate for the primary June election as far as the office of sheriff? Whatever the reason: i.e., Garza lived here, Youngblood has an extended education in law enforcement, etc.
I'm really interested in others opinions because I'm really not sure who I will be voting for at this point.

Oh, and a reminder to vote that Tuesday, either at St. Elizabeth's, City Hall, or Church of Our Living Savior. I'm working the polls at the latter.

Hope to see some comments posted.
Have a great week.

I have heard from someone who keeps a close eye on county politics that the rank and file sheriff officers are supporting Youngblood.

Look beyond Chevy being a hometown boy or hispanic. He is very qualified to be the Sheriff. I have spoken with him in the past and he has a great head on his shoulders. He understands the problems that are very important to not only this community, but to all of kern county. Let's vote someone who is in touch with the needs of the small Kern County communities and will reach out and give us the support we need as McFarland continues to grow. And yes it so happens Chevy is from McFarland and he is Hispanic. Wow what a great role model for our kids and the community.

Who are the candidates if you don't mind me asking? We need to know so that the word can get out.

This is Rose Mary again.
There are 7 candidates, if one does not get the required # of votes, there will be a run-off between the top 2 in Nov. That
run-off is being predicted as one between Garza and Steve Perez (district supervisor). JR Rodriguez and Danny Youngblood are two other candidates. Mack Wimbash, the current sherrif is looking to get re-elected and the other two are (Larry?) Strueder and I blanked out on the last candidate. Well, I do have Garza lawn signs in my yard...but I have to share something I saw...I live on the 11th Street that was recently visited by the Kern County Swat Team at 1:30 am about two weeks ago. As I watched from my hall window (we were told to go inside, because the suspect was not in custody and considered armed and dangerous), two very tall (they all seem to be 6'4" and up) American swat guys pointed at my yard sign as they walked over my lawn with their rifle butts. But, they pointed as if to take a shot. Then they walked on to make their way up to where the suspect was supposed to be hiding. I'm very sure I'll vote for Garza, now.
I thought that gesture came about as a bit racial. Someone look up the 7th candidate for the prior entry...thanks. Have a great day!

Sorry Rose Mary, I wasn't referring to the sheriff candidates. I know who those are because they have ads and commercials and are on t.v. I am more interested in knowing who the candidates are for the aug. 15th election here in our very own town. Ralph, you mentioned that we have good candidates. Who are they? we need to know to pass the word around that these are the ones to vote for. don't want to wait any longer. so who are they if you don't mind me asking.

So far I am aware that 4 people have taken out paperwork to run for office. The three that I was referring too are:

1. Ken Rosson, former councilman with several years of experience and a McFarland homeowner.
2. Dennis Martin, businessman and a McFarland homeowner.
3. Julie Rodarte (my wife), former teacher, businesswoman, and a McFarland homeowner.

I don't know who the fourth person is. After the June 1st deadline I will get information on all of the candidates that have submitted paperwork and post it on the blog. Also, I will be providing all of the candidates an opportunity to post a one page statement on this blog.

Any one of the candidates that you mentioned running for mayor or are they running for council seats? Julie should run for mayor!

:) Julie

Hey Ralph,
So who is running for council and mayor? It is June 1st and today is the deadline. Please give post a list of candidates and your views of each. Your opinion is very important for those of us that care about McFarland. I hope to see a list of candidates and who they will be running against.

Out of the approximately 5 people that picked up nomination forms it looks like only 3 people turned in their paperwork. They are:
Ken Rosson, running for mayor.
Dennis Martin, running for councilman.
Julie Rodarte, running for councilwoman.
It is not clear which positions Dennis and Julie will be running for. From what I understand, a state agency will randomly determine which spots they will run in.
As far as I am concerned, all three candidates are outstanding and we have a lot to look forward to once we get this new group into office. Ken has several years of experience on the council and has management experience through his job, he and his wife have lived in McFarland most of the adult lives. Dennis is an entreprenuer, with a track record of making wise financial decisions and lots of ideas on things that we can do in this town. I have faith that he can help provide the support that the council needs in making wise financial decisions. Julie is a former teacher, B.S. in Biology from Humboldt, she runs two businesses (Ebay store and Shafter Chevron). She is also more than qualified to sit on the council. With these three candidates we have a lot to look forward to in the future.

Is there any information available for the three new candidates regarding their political views or vision for McFarland. It seems like it will be very difficult to know who to vote for if we don't know where the candidates stand on important issues. Someone suggested a meeting where all of the candidates could come together and be asked questions at one time. This seemed to me like a good way of finding out more about the candidates. What does everyone else think? And is this a possibility?

on june 5th someone asked where we could find candidate statements, etc. I have not seen anything here yet except continual bashing of the incumbants! Please !! Where can I find out something about these people?
