City of McFarland Recycling Bills?
I was wondering if anyone else in town was surprised to see that the city sent out two bills this month, one for water and one for our recycling services for ~$15. We have had several people calling us today that are upset about receiving these bills. I thought that our last property tax bill already included a charge for the recycling services and I'm a bit confused about this bill. Is this an additional charge on top of everything else?

So I wonder what would happen if we just didn't pay this recycling bill? Would Sunset just come by and pick up our recycling bins? Hmm..Maybe this is a thought worth pursuing. Many of our friends and family members have told us that they don't even put their recyclable material into these bins and they prefer to do their own recycling. Maybe we should boycott Sunset Waste and their services to send a message to the city council.

Yes,I too was surprised to see an extra bill.I recycle what should be put in the blue container.I've never used it and I never asked the city for the blue can, so why should I pay for it.I really hope the city members being recalled aren't punishing the community.I really think they made things worse for themselves. If anyone has any idea what the community should do regarding the recycling bill, please share it.Let's work together!
Rafael I took my bill in today,I paid the water and told them I wasn't paying the recycing bill as I never asked for the can and it just showed up in my yard at the first of the year. In fact I have never, ever used it. I also gave the city of McFarland a bill of $110.00 for the storage of their container in my backyard for the last 4 months. They said take it to the council meeting,I said no this is the business office and left the bill with them.
Wow, what a cool response! Actually, me and several of my family members were also thinking along the same lines and we have decided to withhold payment on this bill until we find out what is going on. It does seem unfair to pay for services that we are not using. I wonder what would happen if all homeowners in McFarland were to withhold their payments. I think it would send a powerful message to the city council.
Let's see, if we don't pay our water and electricity bill these services are usually cutoff. So if we don't pay our recycling bill will they take our can away and cutoff this service?
hey ralph, i called and questioned the ladies at the city and they said the charge is for services in 2005-2006 and they'll be charging us until they catch up with the 2007-2008 tax billing cycle. but didn't we just get those things this year???? why would we have to pay for 05-06?? and they, city gals, said the increase in our tax bill was just want R&F increased!!! how funny, huh??
Well I got the recycling flyer today on my door (gee I wonder why that happend)I think we should keep in mind the state has mandated that the city have a recycling program. It doesn't necessary mean that we have to participate in it do we? If the city had to pay $11,330 in July of 05 they should have complyed. The flyer also said the City Of Mcfarland paid a fine . I think that would be the tax payer, that is me and you.The flyer also says the residents of Mcfarland may have to pay a fine if the city fails to meet state recycling order. ya I'd like to see them collect that from any of my neighbors. Well I could go on but these are just a bunch of scare tactics from the city. I hope they give me the senior citizen discount they talked about in sec #7 I'll 55 this year.
P.S. I sure am having fun with these blogs.
When we first saw the flyer that came out this weekend we were very suspicious of it. The flyer had the city seal on it but it was not signed by anyone on the city staff so that people could call and answer questions. I wonder why. Plus, some of the wording in the flyer was intended to be intimidating, especially the part where they break out the monthly cost to each household. They also of course failed to mention why the city was fined.
THIS IS BETTER THAN "WHAT ARE YOU HIDING.BLOGSPOT.COM"!
