A Brand New Day for McFarland

The recall results are in and Melendez, Cantu, and Santillano will finally be removed from office. This is a great new day for McFarland. Thanks to all of the people in the community that got involved in this effort. We look forward to working with all of you to make some positive changes in the community.

Wow this is like waking up on Christmas morning to the best gift ever what a breath of fresh air for Mcfarland this morning and another chance for Mcfarland to be a better place to live. Well first I want to thank God for answered prayer. Second I want to thank Rafiel and Julie who took this on and all the others that worked so hard and put in so many long hours to make it happen

I just wanted to share a funny story about what took place during the final moments before the votes were written up on the whiteboard. This is just another example of how bright Melendez is. When he read the columns on the board he saw that the column labeled "Favor" had more votes in it and he took it to mean that people were in favor of him. He thought that he had won and began to celebrate a little too early. Someone had to inform him that he was confused and break the bad news to him. You should have seen the look on his face when he found out that he lost. It was unbelieveable!

It was obvious that a recall had to happen. Not everyone likes to be made a fool, lie to us once shame on you, lie to us twice shame on us.That's why I offered to help without compensation to have this recall. It's really a shame when someone is given a title in front of their name and they take advantage of it.I pray that not everyone that is given a chance takes advantage of it.To the three that will replace the recalled council members, please listen to the community members of Mcfarland and let us be aware of what is going on in the city. I know it's not easy to please everyone, but it doesn't hurt to listen to ideas others may have. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment.

I wish I could of seen Melendez's face when he was told he had lost. He lied to many people that had voted for him and I really think Cantu would of been spared if he just wouldn't of let himself get involved in the web of lies. And for the third one I don't think he cared what happened he never said much he just agreed with Melendez.

To Anonymous who seems to be clueless about the 3 new council members...

The new mayor (Ken Rosson)DOES live in town and has for a very long time.If you had ever paid attention to the city council in the past you would have known he served as councilman for 16 years and he was asked by many members of the community to run for mayor since he has so much experience. Even Rafael Melendez had commented on this fact on the news last night.

Yes Julie and Rafael do have a Chevron in another city (at least you got that right)but that only makes sense since there is one in McFarland already and Rafael lives in McFarland 100% of the time. He now works for Aera Energy in Bakersfield, I understand Aera made an offer worth quitting Intel in the bay area.

Mr. Martin has a business in McFarland (Maria's Pizza) and another business in Wasco. He has been on McFarland's planning commision for some time now.

Maybe you should get out more...all 3 new councilmembers have been part of our community for a very long time and I have no doubt the first issue they will address will be the recycling can.

Julie's husband did not run for office; Julie did...It matters to whom that he is not in Mc Farland
85% of the time?

i really hope that everyone understands that the blue trash cans were issued on by contract by the previous council..and by contract have to be kept until the contract is up. the election of the new council did not ensure the immediate removal of the blue trash cans, but the immediate removal of the very people who made those ridiculous decisions in the first place, and so keep in mind that although we have to keep the trash cans by contract for the time being, any further decisions made in coucil will take into consideration the needs and wants of the community

Anonymous 8/20/06 7:17pm Everyone in Mcfarland is a winnner now that the election is over. Even the losers are winners and just don't know it yet, because they will have better people running the city. As for the headaches. They got voted out didn't they? I'm still laughing at your post.(Keep up the funny post it makes me laugh)

Hello,

Just wanted to let everybody know that there was yet, another victory against Melendez. On Thursday, August 24th, John Ward won a settlement against Melendez and the City of McFarland for an undisclosed amount. We are only sorry that the City was left to pay this settlement for the improprieties and wrongful acts created entirely by Melendez alone. Our predictions tell us that the City of McFarland is only destined to see better days in the absence of Melendez. Thanks to all who supported John Ward in this endeavor!

It's too bad that the city has to pay out more money due to Melendez's mistakes. But that is the price that we pay for not electing good leaders.

Stay tuned to this blog over the next several months, because we will be getting access to more documents and information regarding other stupid things that Melendez has done.

Congratulations to Mr.Ward, he does deserve the glory of winning his case.Lots of people didn't appreciate the job he had done out in the sewer plant, and many weren't aware of his knowledge in running the plant.Another one of Melendez's mistakes, how many more will come out of city hall because of Melendez.I really hope the new council stays on the good side of the community, there are intelligent people living in the city of Mcfarland.

Hello,

Just one more little tid-bit that everyone might enjoy hearing about. On the day John Ward won his settlement, John also received the satisfaction of hearing Melendez accept an admission of guilt sworn under oath before a Majestrate Judge. It's only a shame that these types of hearings are closed and the video cameras were'nt rolling for all to witness.

As an outsider looking in I can't help but feel sorry for the town of McFarland. It has so much potential, yet politricks always seem to rear it's ugly face. While other towns off of 99 are blossoming (e.g. Tulare, Visalia, etc.) McFarland remains a backwards city with no direction. If it's not the school board recall fiasco, it's this asinine city council recall. It's such a pity.

In regards to the post on 8/28/06 at 8:27pm. That was the most intelligent comment I have seen on this blog. Not surprisingly it came from an outsider, because the people of McFarland are seriously screwed up. If your going to recall someone why not Don Campbell? From what I hear from knowledgable and credable sources he was responsible for bankrupting the city among other notorious actions.

And if this recall was really in the interest of the communtiy and not a personal vandetta against Melendez why continue with the insults and other immature behavior I would expect from school children. Rodarte, the recall election is over move on with your life. Another thing, in regards to your post on 8/26/06 at 2:28pm, no one with a life and intelligence cares about other mistakes Melendez made. He is no longer the Mayor and it was in the past.

Why don't you spend your time researching ways to improve this community like showing up to the general plan update meetings were your efforts would actually make a difference. Of course it takes a leader to create a new vision for McFarland and work to see it to completion. Any sorry bastard could have accomplished what you did.

Signed thorougly unimpressed and disgusted.
