Audio Clip from December 8th Council Meeting

I received a set of micro-cassettes with the audio recording for the December 8th council meeting. I am posting a clip with one of the highlights from the meeting.

1. The mayor admits that he is using city money to pay for his wife's travel expenses. He states that he believes he is entitled to have us pay for these personal expenses because he spends a lot of time from home serving our needs. Sounds more like he is serving his own needs.

2. Councilman Manuel Cantu stands by the mayor and makes comments suggesting that the mayor's behavior is acceptable because McFarland is like a multi-million dollar company with lots of money to spare.

3. Toward the end of the clip the mayor makes a statement that the council approves of his use of city money for personal travel and the audience in the council chamber speaks out in protest.

If anyone would like to receive a free copy of the complete recording of the entire meeting on CD just send me an email at rrodartejr@earthlink.net. Make sure to provide your name and mailing address.

are you trying to convince us that life was better when your father in law was in office??? he's a sore loser . . . he lost for mayor and he lost for city council! take a hint: the city of mcfarland is not puting up with his backstabbing and underhanded tactics any more!!!!

Ben had a grand jury investigating him for lots of "under the counter" stuff. Come on, just because no one was out on a witch hunt, like you Mr. Rodarte, doesn't mean your father-in-law oops, i mean "the previous administration" was better.

what they are trying to do is get ben back in to office because they don't any one to find out about all the "under the counter" stuff he has done. they want to get the 3 council members off the board because they are uncovering all of the "under the counter" stuff that garza has aquired. since ben has been out of office the city is improving. the new council men have not been in office not even a year and you are trying to accuse them for mistakes made by previous council men, get real. garza is going to go down, for a long time.......

Questions and comments to the people who added the first two posts or any other Melendez supporters.

1. Can you state and provide evidence regarding the improvements that the mayor and the council have made for our city?

2. What is this "under the counter" stuff? Why don't you just come out and specifically state what you are referring too? Yes, it is true that Ben was investigated by the grand jury for supplying fuel to the city vehicle fleet. The grand jury found that he was supplying fuel to the city well before he became councilman and even expressed regret for wasting his time. Oh and by the way, for those of you that haven't heard, Mr. Melendez is currently under investigation by the grand jury.

3. This whole recall effort is not designed with the intention to place Ben Garza back into office and he will not be running for mayor. Our goal is simply to restore order to our council and replace these unqualified people with individuals that can make sound decisions.

how did garza come up with chevron in shafter? was it given to him? did he make a negotiation with someone? how did he get the building above chevron in mcf.? in my opinion, garza is a crook and truth will be told.

To the last comment above....he purchased the store and the building above it over 20 years ago from its last owner who had it for sale. What's so crooked about that? You must be crooked too if you bought a home right?? God forbid if you have the ability to do that!! Get real!!!! And what does Ben Garza have to do with the current city council members irresponsible actions? The decisions being made by the 3 in question are there own mistakes and they should be removed!!!

i think that people need to get a handle on the problem at hand and leave ben garza out of this. This recall has nothing to do with ben, but with the quality of our city council, let's face it, we have a major problem that needs to be fixed, instead of responding with hot headed retorts and childish bickering, how about we try to make things better for the city and the people who reside in it?
