I can not under stand how
Melendez thinks ? He has
no right to spend our tax
money that way & do you
really believe he would
pay city back if he had'nt
got caught . This is not
the kind of leader of a
city with over 35% unemployment we need. I
just wonder how much more
of our tax money has been
spent so irresponsibly ?

Melendez said, "The facts will be the facts." True. It has been determined that city funds were misappropriately spent on his wife.
Melendez also said, "The truth will always be the truth." Apparently. The Grand Jury saw to it. If it was not true that city funds were misappropriately spent on his wife then it would have never reached the Grand Jury. (And why did it take until Decemeber 20th to pay the city back? This matter was brought to his attention back in November. He could have done the right thing then but he chose not to. Maybe he was hoping he wouldn't have to be made to pay the city back.)
Melendez finally said, "No matter how I saw it or how others paint it." What??? As it is, it is hard to comprehend what exactly his point is. I find this most discouraging as he does currently fill the position of mayor of Mc Farland. He must mean (and I'm guessing here) that he saw nothing out of the ordinary in his wrongdoing. And the copies of original documents, receipts, transactions, credit card statements, and city checks must be referring to what others painted. GO FIGURE.
ANYWAY, people this man is manipulating you. I offer his final quote as proof, when confronted about the allegations,
(I tell them) "Don't worry about it."
WHY WOULD HE NOT BOTHER TO EXPLAIN HIMSELF. DOES HE NOT CARE ABOUT ONE'S OPINION? DID HE FORGET YOU VOTED FOR HIM AND AT THE VERY LEAST HE OWES YOU AN EXPLANTION IF NOT (IDEALLY) AN APOLOGY?
I DON'T GET IT AND HE HAS NOT BOTHERED TO SHOW ME THAT HE WAS IGNORANT OF THE FACT THAT HE MISUSED MONIES, THAT IS HE DIDN'T MEAN TO. BECAUSE OF THIS, I AM IN SUPPORT OF HIS RECALL AND I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM AGAIN. (OOPS, I DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM TO BEGIN WITH.}
ROSEMARY, ROSEMARY,
Weren't you that person who tried running for city council in the last elections? And nobody voted for you! Who are you to be complaining? you are just as crooked as garza! Aren't you one of those garza supporters? I don't support Melendez either, but if i had a choice between you and him i would prefer him (Melendez). Please don't waste your time and our time by putting your name in the ballot in the next elections.
Mr. Rodarte? What's this rumor or should i say fact, that you have people collecting signatures who aren't even UNITED STATES CITIZENS. I really don't know if it is true, but it would really SUCK to have invested all that time into collecting signatures and at the end having them disqualified. Also, tell garza to stop sending his chevron workers to collect signatures. Is he paying them at least?
IF if have the wrong Rosemary in mind please forgive me, but if not, don't forgive me please!
To the anonymous above,
Looks like you need someone to explain the difference between rumor and fact, let me give some examples:
RUMOR: People collecting signatures are not United State Citizens
FACT: You have to be a registered voter to collect signatures and sign a declaration located at the bottom of each petition. I only passed out petition forms to registered voters which I verified by checking the voter registration list.
FACT: Paying anyone to collect signatures is illegal. No one needs to get paid, everyone’s motivation to collect signatures is having certain council members removed in order to better our community.
Need more examples?
Thank you for clearing things up Julie Rodarte. I appreciate your quick response.
FACT: You did have one person collecting signatures who was not a registered voter.
What percent of the community is actually aware of the signature collecting rules?
FACT: Yes i agree, it is illegal to pay people to collect signatures.
What are your fathers employees doing collecting signatures?
Personally, I think That you are doing the right thing in recalling Melendez. I hope that there is someone out there in our community who is qualified to be Mayor.
One more question Julie, By when do you have to collect the 660 signatures?
Hi Again,
If there is someone collecting signatures who is not a registered voter, they did not go through me nor did they get copies of the petitions from me. If I were to find out who this person is, if they trully exist, I would need to talk to them and let them know that as much as we appreciate there help, by law, they can't collect signatures.
There are a couple of volunteers who do work at my father's station who are helping collect signatures out of there own free will. Like I said before, there motivation comes from wanting to better the community. Why does it matter that they work at Chevron? Why should chevron workers be excluded from helping if they want too? Just curious...
Thankyou for your support on the recall and we too hope and believe there are people more qualified and honet to serve as mayor.
As for the last question, we have until March 13 to collect approx. 660 signatures. We want at least 800 signatures to be safe. At the pace everyone is going we should be there within the next 2 weeks.
Thanks for clearing everything up julie. You have my support on recalling melendez, but not the two city council members. You should really consider recalling Don Cambel and Socorro Munoz. These two person's are not qualified to lead this community.
I will be there when it comes time to vote.
Also, I need Rosemary to respond!!!
can someone sign the petition for someone who is ill and can't hardly see nor speak even though it might be a family member of the ill person? in other words, can someone forge somebody's signature? if so where do i sign..
To the comment posted at 1:25 AM, I assure you that working at the chevron station has nothing to do with us helping with the recall. We, by our own free will, were willing to get involved. Based on the facts provided, it became apparent what the necessary actions entailed. It's time to get out there and do the right thing! We are citizens of McFarland first, and we felt that by helping with the recall we would be doing our part....and NO we are NOT getting paid...if anything we are losing money because we've cut back on hours at the store to help with the collection of signatures...but we feel that this is time well spent, and i know that in the end our efforts will be rewarded.
I believe all city councl members should be aware of how city money is being used.If they are aware that money is being used in a wrong manner, they shouldn't be scared of speaking up,they were voted to do good for the city of Mcfarland. If they had knowledge of such travel expenses, they are all just as guilty as the mayor.
mrs. julie,
FACT: there was an underage person out there collecting signatures . . . can't be a registered voter if you're not 18. And you do know about it, they got off of your mother's suburban!
HI,
Thanks! If it's that person who everyone is referring too, then I'm not worried. The underaged person who is helping my Mom helps locate the homes and when it's dark helps with the flash light. My Mom is the one collecting signatures. There is nothing illegal with having a nonregistered voter accompany a registered voter who is collecting the signatures. Thanks for your help, I don't want this recall to end up like the school board recall and any tips as to any wrong doing being done is greatly appreciated. :)
To "annonymous on 2/7/06 @ 9:00pm
and annonymous on 2/8/06 @ 5:22pm"-
forgive me for you do not identify
yourself.
This is Rose Mary (first clue: my name is two words) and I do believe you have me confused with another person named Rosemary. But, I did vote in the last election for city council and none of the candidates (and there were many) were named like myself.
Hoped I could clear that foggy
information for you but you're going to have to think a little more and try to recall just who it really is that you are trying to get your message to.
Also, "anonymous", I apologize for taking a while (with internet and all available) to get back to the blog but I am such a busy person and I actually just checked the blog today!
Well, if there is anything else you want to ask me, feel free to.
Have a great night! Rose Mary
yes he would pay it back he is a really good man you don't think so because you don't know him
I have yet to meet an educated person that thinks highly of Melendez.
